Gartner’s Top Strategic Tech Trends – Why Integration is Fundamental

In the lead up to Gartner IT Symposium Xpo in Gold Coast 2022, our team at IntegrationWorks Australia has been researching some of Gartner’s predicted Top Strategic Technology Trends. Interestingly, integration and consolidated systems is fundamental to enablement of all of these trends.

With CEOs and Boards striving to find growth through direct digital connection with customers, CIOs’ priorities must reflect the same business imperatives, and must find the IT force multipliers to enable growth and innovation while creating scalable, resilient technical foundations according to David Groombridge, Research Vice President at Gartner.

Some of the top strategic technology trends include:

Data Fabric

The demand for data, applications and a single-pane of glass across analytics has surged in the last decade and there is not enough skilled personnel to keep up with demand. To build a resilient data fabric has its core fundamentals in integration, and connects data across platforms and business users. Demand has surged to simplify an organisations’ data integration infrastructure to create scalable architecture that allows new services to bolt in, while reducing technical debt. Without this, organisations face slow growth and stagnating digital enablement due to siloed application and data infrastructure, and an over-reliance on manual handling.

Distributed Architectures and Enterprises

With the rise in remote and hybrid working patterns, traditional office-centric organisations are evolving into distributed enterprises comprised of geographically dispersed workers. This is also reflected in their IT infrastructure that will often sit across multiple geographies in either on-prem, private cloud or public cloud.

This requires CIO’s and IT teams to make major technical and service changes to ensure the geographic and virtual distribution of people and systems are connected – this means integrating collaboration tooling, as well as applications and data to ensure every remote worker has a central source of information. In addition, Gartner expects that by 2023, 75% of organisations that exploit distributed enterprise benefits through integration will realise revenue growth 25% faster than competitors.

Decommissioning the old, and enabling Cloud Native Platforms.

For true digital transformation, enterprises must look to invest in rearchitecting their applications in the cloud with integration across applications at their forefront. The rise of Cloud Native Platforms means that businesses can use the core capabilities of cloud computing to provide scalable and elastic IT-related capabilities “as a service” to technology creators using internet technologies, delivering faster time to value and reduced costs. Harnessing the power of a strong API strategy and layer will also allow for these applications to connect across multi-cloud environments at scale.

For this reason, Gartner predicts that cloud-native platforms will serve as the foundation for more than 95% of new digital initiatives by 2025 — up from less than 40% in 2021.

Decision Intelligence (DI)

With the rise of data and analytics, companies are starting to understand the true power of a consolidated data view for corporate decision making. Therein lies the growth for Decision Intelligence platforms that work across data lakes, data warehouses and customer channels to interpret terabytes of corporate data. An organisation’s decision-making competency can be a significant source of competitive advantage, but without the ability to connect data sources hinders an organisation to take advantage of the opportunity.

Gartner predicts that in the next two years, a third of large organizations will be using decision intelligence for structured decision-making, to improve competitive advantage.

Total Experience (TX)

TX is a business strategy that combines the disciplines of customer experience (CX), employee experience (EX), user experience (UX) and multi experience (MX). The goal of TX is to drive greater customer and employee confidence, satisfaction, loyalty and advocacy. At its most basic level, integration can support improved experiences of all of these by simplifying the application architecture in order to create data visibility over the enterprise. Following this, end-user channels for both users, customers and employees can be properly executed with pretty UI’s and interfaces. With a focus on integrated and easy-to-consume TX, organisations will increase revenue, retention and profit.
